Also, if anyone has book recommendations for the American occupation of the Philippines/How the Philippines were governed after the war that would be neat too. I'm looking for books on the Cuban and Pacific theaters.
The best complete history is Empire By Default by Ivan Musicant. It's a huge tome and starts with the Cuban revolutions starting in the 1860s.
As a narrative it's a bit clunky, the leadup is long and the war itself is so short, and it covers the Philippines, too. It's been a few years since I read it but it's the definitive work as of now.
