A new video game is coming out that takes place from 303 BC to the rise of Augustus. The game is NOT focused solely on Rome but also Europe, Northern Africa, and Western Asia. I know next to nothing about the events of this time period, what are some good books to inspire my gameplay?

Obligatory I looked through the book list.

The game is massive, the map covers all of Europe including Britain, Northern Africa, India, and the Middle East. I have no idea where I should even begin my reading. Rome may be a good start, but I don't want to neglect the rest of the world. I am especially curious about India and the Middle East during the games timeline. I would be thankful for any books on the happenings on the time period, hard reads welcome and even encouraged.

Secondary Question: Devs said finding information on Scandinavia is very hard during this time period, and they had to use some educated guesswork. Does India, Eastern Europe, Spain, or anywhere else suffer from lack of scholarship during this time period?

Question for OP. Since I didn't see it in the post, is the game Imperator: Rome?
