Did countries like France and later Germany view it as another European power? How much did they care that they were Muslims and not Christians? Did they view it as an equal or were religious and cultural differences too much?
Edit: specifically from 1800 onward
It might be helpful if you could specify a time period. The very concept "European power" describes a concept that existed for only a portion of the Ottoman Empire's 600+ year existence.
