As a kid I grew up believing that humans domesticated wolves and they somehow evolved into dogs. Is this true? Did early humans actually domesticated a dog instead of a wolf? How did this happen?
The domestication of dogs happened at least 5000 years before the invention of writing, so this question may be inappropriate to ask a historian. You're probably looking for a biologist of some kind. Try /r/askscience.
