Is there any interesting books that explore Native America before the arrival of Europeans in the 1400s? If so then that would be great considering I am greatly fascinated with natives american cultures whether it be the Iroquois Confederacy of the eastern woodlands, the Mississippian Kingdoms or the Mound-Builders civilizations, and the ancient Mayan culture of the Yucatan Peninsula.
The subjects of any Pre-Columbian related books could range anywhere with history, warfare, philosophy, art, language, and etc.
A really interesting summary of life before Columbus arrived is 1491, about what the Americas were like in the years just before Columbus arrived. The same author wrote another book about what happened in the decades (and centuries) after Columbus arrived called—surprise!—1493. These are both secondary sources, and not primary research, but lots of references that you can follow for more details.
I fear that this is an unacceptably non-professional answer, but perhaps it will survive because the question doesn't call for a lengthy answer.
The AH booklist has very good sections on this:
Books on the Aztecs I could recommend from there as intros are by Carrasco (general), Hassig (warfare) and Léon-Portilla (philosophy), but really anything on there.
Since Charles Mann was mentioned by u/Ohthere530 - I liked his 1493 (didn't read 1491 yet) but would keep in mind that he's synthesizing 2dary literature, so it's a good idea to look into his sources for areas you find interesting.
