When are old books interesting as primary sources, and where should they be donated?

Over the years, I've collected and/or been given numerous books. Some of these are at or over the century mark; I'm especially fond of a history book published in 1918 (IIRC) that has an EXTENSIVE section on Napoleon's wars.

To me, most of them are curiousities- books I treat well, but am unlikely to seriously sit down and read or make use of, nor that I have any particular emotional connection to. Which got me thinking, if they could be put to better use than as dust collectors.

Would books of this age be useful as primary sources, and if so, where should I donate them?

If there’s a college or university near you I’d give their library a call. You can check the website to get the right extension. These would be SO useful for history majors or anyone doing research on old topics (I wish my library had these when I had to do papers lol)
