What was the view of the South Vietnamese people on the Vietnam war? And what was the view of the North Vietnamese people on the Vietnam war?

Followup question - I know that in Germany, after reuinification, there remained (and to some degree does) a significant economic and cultural divide. Does the same apply to the Northern and Southern parts of Vietnam, given that it reunified "the other way around"? How extensive was the Norths' implemented changes and intervention in the South, not so much in government (obviously everything changed) but in the lives of ordinary citizens, economic conditions, etc.? After Vietnam (as a whole) adopted market-oriented reforms, did both sides converge on some kind of center, or does a bitter social divide remain?
