What was the year 0001 (or 0000) like, did people accept it as a new calendar system or did people think that it was some BS at the time

I assume you mean the year AD 1 (there is no AD 0). In this case, no one at that time would’ve thought of themselves as living in AD 1 since this system for naming years was not developed until much later. How people thought of the year depended on where they lived - you might find this thread on ancient calendars useful in this respect.
