As far as I am aware there are many cases of nomadic peoples (e.g. the Mongols under Genghis Khan) who had no permanent place of settlement, yet were also armed with strong metal armour and weapons, as well as any metal used for tools and any other utensils. Without the permanent infrastructure to mine, smelt, and forge metal how would they acquire enough to high grade metal for this? Would it all come from trade and stealing, or am I mistaken about how nomadic they were?
On a similar note - I know the mongol empire as a whole was nomadic, which is why no trace of their empire remains (cities were just tents, and tents don’t turn into ruins, they just turn into dust). Were they as nomadic in Mongolia? Was the city of Khans at the time a city built with solid materials (eg stone, brick)? If so where did they get the materials from?
