Speculation regarding his sexuality is common, but none of his diaries or other writings discuss any romantic or sexual relationships of his. One of the main reasons he's often portrayed as gay is that in 1476 he was accused twice of "sodomy" (sex with a man) with a known male prostitute, once in April and once in June. Both times the charges were dismissed. Retrospective analysis of his writings and relationships are common, including by Freud, some of which concluded that he might have been gay. However this is all speculation, there are no sources either from da Vinci, his apprentices, or friends and family that would provide definitive insight into his orientation.
