I once saw a video that said that after WW2 (I believe) a french crown was offered to one of the claimants to the kingdom/empire of France but the claimant turned it down because he wanted to change Frances flag. However after doing some googling I can find nothing on. Did this happen or does anyone know anything about this?
I don’t believe anything like that occurred after World War II.
However, after the end of the Franco-Prussian War, the royalists held a majority in the National Assembly. The Orléanist faction agreed to support Henri, Comte de Chambord’s claim to the throne as Henri V.
Henri would only accept on condition the flag be returned to that of the fleur de lys. A compromise wasn’t reached, giving birth to the Third Republic.
