If possible or if it even exists, is there a book that covers from pre-history Indus Valley civilization up to as close to the modern day as possible? Or barring that any books detailing history prior to European colonization?
If you didn't have a look yet, our South Asia book list has a few entries for general overviews. I find Kulke & Rothermund's general history a good intro for these periods, also for pre-colonial times, and it's easy to find in full online. Unfortunately the list is still lacking for ancient history, but hopefull this will provide a start!
