Yes this is correct. We don't have documentation of exact figures of budgets and profits of the death camps, but we do have many of these records for the concentration camps. We do have some profit documents given by Odilo Globocnik to Himmler which shows extremely high profits from just a small fraction of the killings. Globocnik was one of the main organizers of the Operation Reinhard camps, which were three death camps in Eastern Poland (Treblinka, Sobibor, and Belzec) which are responsible for well over a million of the six million Jews killed, in an extremely short period of time. Profits were gained in several different ways. First, a good deal of the German economy, including the war machine, depended upon POW and forced/slave labor, all of which was unpaid. This was centered in factories, labor camps, farms, mines, concentration camps, and ghettos. Laborers consisted of a diverse range of people the Nazis considered undesirable, some of the largest groups being Soviet POWs, Communists, people from the Slavic countries, and Jews. The laborers in these camps were sometimes kept alive with minimal rations, but in other times and places they were fully expendable and were essentially worked to death. Another major space for acquiring wealth was primarily within Germany, before the war, when the Jewish community was systematically drained of wealth at the same time it was drained of freedoms, or by confiscating bank accounts or large parts of them when Jews were trying to get out of Germany. A third way was theft of Jewish wealth in occupied countries, again which happened in many ways. One way was confiscation of certain types of wealth such as specific objects, or of wealth held in bank accounts. When Jews were ghettoized they were forced to leave or sell many of their possessions for food, and some of this wealth went to Germans. When deportations began there was theft of possessions and wealth of those deported, this was done also when killing was done by mass shootings. Some of this wealth was taken by Germans and kept, some taken by locals, and some was sent to Germany. People were also told to bring possessions with them when they were deported to death camps. Millions of goods, and millions of dollars worth of coinage and precious metals were sent to Germany. Additionally those running the camps, and the SS and RSHA men involved in the planning funneled large amounts into their own pockets.
