How would you use historical tv shows in a classroom to stimulate historical thinking?

by Mattizz

Hi, i'm doing my thesis about historical reasoning skills in a classroom of kids age 13-14.

I'll be teaching about Rome and would use the tv show 'Rome' (2005).

I know this isn't a regular question in this sub but i'm trying to fetch some idea's from people.

The outcome of my thesis would be a project where the kids are learning to historical think over the time period of 1 class (50minutes). I'll have to get them to be active and experiment themselves during this time.

Any tips are welcome, thank you.

Quick clarification, what exactly do you mean by think historically? Is there some sort of tangible learning objective, like get kids to remember that Caesar conquered Gaul... ect, or are you just trying to get them to think about history in a general sense? Also when you say one 50 minute class session are you saying you only get a single class to teach about Rome or is this repeated over several weeks?
