Why does Gustavus Adolphus doesn’t have a tittle/nickname

by great_Kaiser

Many kings and emperors were given tittles/nicknames like "the great, the simple, the conqueror, the bastard" etc. However i was reading about Gustavus Adolphus military reforms and his achievements and I wonder why doesn’t he have a tittle especially considering all of his contributions to Sweden rise to power. Was it just not a tradition in Sweden or his early death prevented the creation of a tittle for him or does he have a nickname that i dont know about?

To put it simply, he does. Several in fact. He was known as the Lion of the North, or Der Löwe aus Mitternacht (The Lion of Midnight) in German. Swedish power metal band Sabaton has a song dedicated to him, titled "The Lion from the North".

He was formally and posthumously given the title "the Great" by the Swedish Estates of the Realm in 1633 (Gustav Adolf den Store in Swedish, and Latinized as Gustavus Adolphus Magnus). He is the only Swedish monarch who carries that title.
