How similar was the Japanese feudal system structure compared to the feudal system in Europe?

by HerbalBalance

What were some of the similarities and what were the differences? I was just reading how the feudal domains lasted up until close to the 1900's. So its fascinating that their feudal system lasted so much longer than ours did.

Not to discourage any further explanation, I just want you to be aware of the scope of your question.

Feudalism as a term is quite loaded and controversial as you might gather from here https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/2bs0rc/ama_feudalism_didnt_exist_the_social_political/

Also to say Japan stayed feudal up to the 1900's might be misleading, as the true power following the battle of Sekigahara in 1600 up to the boshin war in 1868 lay with the Tokugawa shogunate a higly organized military bureaucracy and afterwards laid in the hands of an imperial government, extremely simplified.
