[META] Will there be any particular policies regarding events like 9/11 or the Iraq invasion once these fall under the 20 year rule?

I'm just curious how this will be handled given that they tend to feel like sensitive topics even after all this time.

Jet Fuel can't melt the "No Soapboxing Rule!"

More seriously though, while we joke that 2021 will see the announcement of the "21 Year Rule", it is something that we will deal with just as we do any other controversial topic. Sources aren't automatically required, but we do expect them to be presented on request, and when a topic is a very touchy one, we are much more preemptive in looking for/requesting them. We will expect respondents to use thoroughly vetted source material that meets our high expectations, and ruthlessly remove crackpot conspiracy posts. Fortunately we still have two years before we actually have to deal with it, which gives us plenty of time to polish things, but at the end of the day, 9/11 isn't unique in the sense that it's level of possible trouble regarding questions has never been seen before, and we don't doubt we'll be able to moderate those threads like any other.

This sub has handled sensitive topics such as racism. I'm confident that the current guidelines will suffice.

Honestly i dont think we should have rules like that. Why shouldnt we discuss recent events? If we carry into the diskussion a sense of decency as is always expected.
