I've recently seen a few articles and Reddit posts that talked about "antifascists" in World War 2. For example, this post https://www.reddit.com/r/TrollXChromosomes/comments/ayxgp6/respect/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share
I think it's great that people are talking about history on Twitter and Reddit, especially history about women, who often get left out of historical discussions. But is calling Nazi fighters antifascists correct? Is that a term that was used at the time or are we putting modern day politics on historical motivations?
Edit: Clarified a sentence.
'Anti-fascist' was absolutely a contemporary term in the 1940s - it was coined in the early 1920s in response to Italian fascism, and was in common usage by the 1930s. For example, I wrote something recently on anti-fascist movements in the 1930s, and am happy to address any specific questions you might have about historical anti-fascism here.
