Question: What is the quintessential book/series of books that give an overview of American history for someone who is new to history and wants to start from the ground up? I am terribly ignorant of history and want to educate myself. Any suggestions are much appreciated. 😁
American Pageant provides fantastic overview of US history. It's a popular textbook for Highschools, and is far better written than any of the history books I suffered through as a pimple-faced teenager.
New copies are quite expensive, but there's plenty of students looking to make a quick buck selling their old copies at far below the publisher price.
