Thursday Reading and Recommendations is intended as bookish free-for-all, for the discussion and recommendation of all books historical, or tangentially so. Suggested topics include, but are by no means limited to:
Asking for book recommendations on specific topics or periods of history
Newly published books and articles you're dying to read
Recent book releases, old book reviews, reading recommendations, or just talking about what you're reading now
Historiographical discussions, debates, and disputes
...And so on!
Regular participants in the Thursday threads should just keep doing what they've been doing; newcomers should take notice that this thread is meant for open discussion of history and books, not just anything you like -- we'll have a thread on Friday for that, as usual.
Anyone got any reccomendations on the history of Nanzhou and Dali? I'm doing some research into the Bai, but I'm finding myself a little stumped.
Is there any recommendations for books about late 19th century military uniforms, preferably with uniform anatomy plates? Aside from Osprey books, which often don't have them
A friend of mine, an artist asked me that and i give him Japanese Military Uniforms 1841-1929 which he liked and asked for more
I want to write a paper for uni on how ancient rome and greece influenced modern western law, political structure, freedom of speech etc.
Some months ago i asked a similar question on this thread because i wanted to go as far back as hammurabi, but i decided to focus on greece and rome since theres a lot more material to work with. Could someone reccomend me some books?
