Crackpot or Legitimate Historian?

by alltheuntold

I saw a recommendation for a historian named Alan Wilson when I was looking for more information about Britain after the departure of Rome, and I was intrigued by what he had to say. However, some of what he says is far different than what I see in other sources, and his reasoning is kind of conspiracy-ish. He believes that the Coelbren alphabet is legitimate, but I can't find anyone else backing that claim. Same with some of his other claims, like Brutus of Troy, or a comet being responsible for the 6th century AD global cooling period.

Trying to research the man, I can see he has different titles, and he seems well-respected, and I can't find anything deriding him.

I lack the knowledge to really dive down into his theories and fact check them, so I was wondering if anyone else knew about him and their thoughts.

This link suggests (including quotes from him) that he's very consciously at odds with mainstream historians/archaeologists

It's possible that as he suggests the mainstream people are pushing an agenda or overlooking his evidence - I'm sure you occasionally get groupthink etc. in academia. But if he's talking about the Twelve Tribes of Israel and Trojans and his argument is bound up with the overlooked greatness of a particular nation etc. then I'd start from a very sceptical place.
