Not in any meaningful sense, but neither were they non-white. Our modern racial constructs are, well, constructs -- they are socially constructed -- and labeling ancient people with those modern terms would make no sense as a means to understand them. "White" and "Black" and other terms are a completely modern concept, which is rooted in the experience of the Atlantic slave trade but formalized in the 19th century.
