I am from Texas, and my wife from Venezuela. She doesn’t understand why black people and white people have such animosity toward each other. There are black people living in South America due to the fact that Spaniards shipped and sold black people into slavery. Now, it’s as if it never happened. All races live in peace. One of her best friends is black, and her nickname is “Negrita”. If I called someone that, I would get beaten up, put up on the news, and lose my job. How and why did things go so much differently in the US?
Racism has not revolved more rapidly. The reason why you may think this is because the US often confronts it's problems and/or displays it in it's media. Other countries tend to filter out it's problems. Ex: Persecution of gypsies in Europe and Asia is almost never written about in the media. However, if there was a hate crime against a gypsie in the US, it would be plastered all over the media and the perpetrators would be shamed. Another problem is that American media tends to overhype racial tensions in the US.
