Hi, i'm a high school student and I'm taking American History

by TryingIntoCollege

We just finished our WWII unit and learned about "Destroyers for Bases" deal. What happens when the 99 years pass? Will this be a big deal in the future when the agreement ends?

BTW This isn't my homework assignment, I think this is one of the wierder agreements in US history

Thank you in advance

While your question about what would happen to these facilities in 2039 is not allowable within the rules of this sub, the fate of the bases meets the twenty-year rule. The majority of the installations leased under the Agreement were closed in 1949, and the rest were gradually shuttered until the last two, Naval Air Station Bermuda and Naval Annex Bermuda, closed in 1995.
