If I wanted to look for a witch or a medium in antiquity Mediterranean or the Levant, what would I need to look for?

Particularly how would I even contact a witch or warlock if I, say, wanted to contact the dead or speak with other spirits? I guess I'm asking because of the story in the old testament "The witch of Endor" where a spirit is brought back from the dead to counsel Saul. What kind of traits did a witch or warlock have? How would I even know? What kind of magical items would they use? Were there any spells or incantations that were common? I'm trying not to be too broad, so I will stop there.

Not to discourage any further answers, but /u/bigfridge224 wrote the most bomb-ass, truly magical answer to a question I asked a few Halloweens ago:

I hear a lot about the everyday use of "curses", charms and other magic in ancient Rome and Greece, some is superficially similar to Voodoo, but I still wonder how the occult was seen in these societies. In the spirit of Halloween can someone tell me?

This goes into some depth about stereotypes of witches and practical witchcraft in the Roman Empire and may help answer your question.
