I get to fly around the world and play with tanks. Even got to fly in a Spitfire. I know some folks are jealous, and they think my historian job is pretty cool. Not that I have a degree in it.

Seriously, though, that seems to be a very subjective question. I would presume that anyone interested in medieval manuscripts might think a job deciphering discoveries in an Irish monastery is pretty cool. One’s definition of “high income” may also be pretty subjective, especially considering the normal career path of a history graduate. As for travel, I presume an Egyptologist might go to Egypt. A WW2 historian could go anywhere from the West Pacific to Eastern Ukraine.

As for more practical answers, see this post https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/96yf9h/monday_methods_why_you_should_not_get_a_history/ by /u/sunagainstgold or this one https://www.reddit.com/r/AskHistorians/comments/al0gzz/what_are_the_possible_career_paths_for_a_historian/ by /u/Medievalismist

Ultimately, I strongly suspect that if you’re going to go for a history degree, passion is going to be your reason, not travel or money.
