Books on ancient sexuality?

by Hugh_Jas97

Hi all. My university is offering a course on Ancient Sexuality next semester, and I’ve decided to take it because it looks incredibly interesting. But now I’ve got the bug for learning more about the topic, while still having a summer to get through before I can start doing that.

So, I’m curious about what good books there are out there on the topic of ancient sexuality. I’m also curious about the medieval era, so if there are any recommendations for that period as well feel free to send them my way.

Any and all will be appreciated!

It’s not a book, but I would recommend Holt N. Parker’s article “The Myth of the Heterosexual: Anthropology and Sexuality for Classicists” in the journal Arethusa Volume 34, Number 3 (2001). It offers a good look at how we often need to think differently when we look at sexuality in the past.
