I am curious to know what kind of impact of being a veteran of the legions would have had on the sociality of the individual. Were the members praised for their exploits such as in gaul? Or did the they simply re-trade and assimilate into roman civil society? To what extent did their previous service either benefit of detriment them in future life?
Many thanks.
Hiya! Sorry about the delay responding here, but I responded to this question on a couple of different fronts a few months ago:
What kind of societal mechanisms did ancient cultures use to reintegrate their warriors after war?
Hope those help, and feel free to ask any follow-ups that you may have!
