Fishing in the Navy

Are there any accounts of sailors fishing for fresh meat while at sea? Log book examples? Would they be compensated at all for this if applicable?

Any input is appreciated. If I were to be specific, I am interested in late 18th and early 19th centuries of the British Navy.
