Found this channel. Love many of the questions, could be one of the more interesting parts of reddit. However, all responses seem to be “removed”. I get the standards are high, but as a newer (this is my first comment ever) reddit user I think I have to move on but don’t really want to. Maybe consider a “quick answer” period and then wait on a more substantiated explanation where you can then replace the other comments and lock it. Otherwise so many questions just sit with no ‘acceptable’ response. I love the cleanliness of the sub but without any answers I think you’re losing folks that are sincerely interested. Good questions without answers only provide more questions. Peace and blessins.
The goal of this subreddit is in-depth answers from people that know what they're on about, and who can answer follow-up questions and provide insight into sources that goes beyond the first hit on google or the appropriate wikipedia page. Redditors that want short, quick answers can go to other subreddits - r/History and r/AskHistory are both valuable communities, and there's a fair bit of overlap in our membership - but r/AskHistorians is a bit different, and with good reason.
Responses that get removed aren't just "answers that are correct but not up to snuff" - they're jokes, notably wrong material, racist comments, plagiarized material, links to pop-history youtube videos, and of course quite a lot of them are just "where are all the comments?"
For us, we'd prefer not having an answer to be better than having the wrong answer, and clearing out the trash is more important than clogging up a thread with worthless material.
My dude, you need to see the list of quality answers the people write here. It doesn't even take that long. People are just use to the internet feeding them something instantly that they don't know how to be patient anymore.
Clearly they aint doing anything wrong when there's such a huge number of subscribers.
