I recently saw a restored model of a WW2 German tracked vehicle but was not able to identify it. It was about the size of the Kubelwagon but entirely track driven. It most closely resembles the Kettenkrad from what I have seen but did not have the front wheel. It was only armed with a MG in front and had bench seating in the back, enough to carry 1 or 2 people and was entirely open topped. I'm curious if anyone knows the vehicle and if so, what its purpose was during the war.
Are you sure it was not a captured vehicle?
The description fits several Allied and Soviet vehicles
The Soviet T-20.
The British Universal Carrier.
The French Renault UE.
The French Lorraine 37L.
The Belgian VCL B.
Most of these type of vehicles were used to tow anti-tank guns or light anti-aircraft guns or they were used as ammunition carriers, with the intention of being able to resupply frontline troops even over terrain devastated by artillery bombardment (like ww1 on the western front had been).
