I’ve been developing my own knowledge in more contemporary military theory and one individual I’ve been enjoying is Nicholas Moran, an advisor for the video game “World of Tanks”. He’s done many videos for them on tanks and has his own YT channel. From watching him, he seems to know his stuff, speaks frequently about information from archival sources, emphasizes how video games and history never match up, and dismisses his own personal experience as a tank commander as a source.
What is the professional view of him? I’ve seen him give many presentations connected to historical groups (Tankfest with the Bovington Tank Museum is rather frequent) and this video on the developmental history of the M4 Sherman that aired on CSPAN. He seems to be professional; acts likes a professional, sounds like a professional, but is he considered one?
Personally, I'm not sure this Moran fellow can be trusted at all - seems fairly shifty to me. That said, I'll leave it up to one of our AskHistorians flairs, /u/The_Chieftain_WG, a specialist in AFVs, to provide the smoking gun.
