Thursday Reading & Recommendations | April 18, 2019

Previous weeks!

Thursday Reading and Recommendations is intended as bookish free-for-all, for the discussion and recommendation of all books historical, or tangentially so. Suggested topics include, but are by no means limited to:

  • Asking for book recommendations on specific topics or periods of history

  • Newly published books and articles you're dying to read

  • Recent book releases, old book reviews, reading recommendations, or just talking about what you're reading now

  • Historiographical discussions, debates, and disputes

  • ...And so on!

Regular participants in the Thursday threads should just keep doing what they've been doing; newcomers should take notice that this thread is meant for open discussion of history and books, not just anything you like -- we'll have a thread on Friday for that, as usual.

Hi, all! Any suggestions for books that cover some of the strangest figures and events of the Middle Ages? Thinking along the lines of the Cadaver Synod. Especially where it concerns royalty, military or clergy.

Hey y’all! Bit of a question; I’m trying to recall a book, that I’m 99% sure was a historical account and not fiction, I heard about a while back. General gist of it, iirc, is a guy traveling ex-Roman provinces shortly after the fall of the WRE. Describing how it was all in ruins and such. There was a passage about him entering an abandoned town, and seeing a statue that he realized was off his father, who was the province governor or something along those lines.

Thank you in advance!
