What was being gay like in Nazi Germany?

It would be a bit of a shock, while homosexuality wasn't "accepted" in pre-nazi Germany, they did have a thriving culture in Berlin. You probably wouldn't openly declare it but many of them hadn't felt at risk until the Nazi regime started.

Police would accept rumors and question individuals, violence occured and the Hitler Youth was used to destroy The Institut für Sexualwissenschaft.

If you were a Nazi soldier or a member of Hitler's group you were tolerated, it's pretty imfamously known that they tolerated one particular Nazi who was openly homosexual, until he became a political enemy and had to be eliminated, and then "cleaning" the party of homosexuals was the reason they claimed for killing these men.

If you want to learn what it was like to be a homosexual in a nazi camp, the pink triangle is a good book. It's also worth researching what happened to these gay men liberated after the war.
