American Founding Fathers & knowledge of and influence of the rise & fall of the Dutch Republic?

by Fuzzyphilosopher

My favorite philosopher is Spinoza & in reading about his life I learned of the Dutch Republic. In a used book store I discovered a set of books titled The History of the United States of The Netherlands. (Unfortunately way out of my price range) & since then I've wondered about this. Especially as in a time of crisis the Republic fell to be replaced again by the monarchy.

I tried looking through the Jefferson Library online to see if he possessed any books on the topic, but I'm not very good at this & it has continued to nag at me for years that surely the Founding Fathers were aware of this event?

Only occurred to me today that I Do have some people to ask about it and I would be very grateful if someone here can tell me yea or nay & add for any other related information.

Most books on the American Revolution seem to act as if it happened in a vacuum or vaguely related the Age of Enlightenment and I would like a deeper understanding of the historical & ideological (?) influences on the Founders.

Perfectly happy to be shown that my hunch is completely wrong of course. :)
