1491 by Charles Mann is a good place to start. New World prehistory is a subject with a robust and diverse literature. You are asking about studies of people from two continents during a period of about 18,000 years. Customs of the American Indians by Father Lafitau, a Jesuit priest who lived in New France in the late 1600's.
The History of the Interior of British Columbia by Father AG Morris, a jesuit priest who lived among the Carrier Indians in the later 1800's. He recorded the oral history of the local tribe as told to him by K'wah, the principal chief of the region.
The White Indian Boy:: The Story of Uncle Nick Among the Shoshones, the autobiography of Elijah Nicholas Wilson, a young white boy who ran away from home to live with the Indians in the 1850's.
The Oregon Territory, and the British North American Fur Trade - with accounts of the habits and customs of the principal native tribes on the northern continent (1845) by John Dunn, a fur trader who worked for the Hudson's Bay Company.
White Slaves of the Nootka, or White Slaves of Macquinna. John Jewitt's account of the two years he was a slave on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. This was just 28 years after Captain Cook made his first visit to the northern Pacific.
