Did a group of monks really get caught worshipping Diana in 1356?

I found this old thread and I wanted to know if the alleged incident took place. I can't find any proof.

I am aware it is debated whether it was Mary or Diana. What I want to know is if it actually happened.

In 1351, the offending prior and monks of Frithelstock decided to set up a chapel and altar without the permission of their superior, the Bishop Grandisson of Exeter, who complained in turn that the statue of Mary was more like a proud eve or a disobedient Diana. This doesn't suggest to me that the cult of Diana was alive and well in the Devon countryside, but rather that the bishop was trying to drive home a point about obedience by drawing on biblical and classical allusions.

I don't at present have time to work through the Latin (pp. 1110-12), but the editor of these volumes gives a summary on pp. lxxi-lxxii. Note that these links go to two separate volumes, which I found among the larger collection listed here.
