The difference between Shinobi and Ninja?

by Lyriumeater

Hello,

I am fairly new to reddit and I need informations on this subject.

I am a writer, and I would like to know what the difference between a shinobi and ninja are.

I am fairly in my beginning steps of what I had planned but it'll be about a story between spies, rivals and their nerworks. So, with that being said. What are the differences? I only know that a shinobi is a male spy/agent? And the kunoichi is the female version of it? (Don't know if that is true or not) and that a ninja is a shinobi that is send to assassinate a target?

That's basically all I know, is this all right or is there more than that about the differences of shinobi and ninja?

I don't know much about feudal Japan and it's periods but I always liked the Ninja as a child.

Thank you for your read.

There’s a good overview of ninja stuff by u/nientenada here:

You may be disappointed though.
