I'm looking to do some research on the history of homosexuality in the pre-modern Middle East. Basically anything from the Golden Age of Islam until WW1. I've been thinking about researching this topic for a long time, and I finally got myself to stop procrastinating and ask for books on this subreddit. Most of what I know comes from a few wikipedia articles that I barely remember.
Any recommendations?
Sarah Amer, Crossing Borders: Love Between Women in Medieval French and Arabic Literature
...following on her article, "Medieval Arab Lesbians and Lesbian-Like Women," Journal of the History of Sexuality 18, no. 2 (May 2009): 215-236
Dror Ze'evi, Producing Desire: Changing Sexual Discourse in the Ottoman Middle East, 1500-1900
I really, really think I've read another book, on Ottoman men specifically, but I can't think of the title. Hopefully those two and the article give you a place to start, though!
