I vaguely remember this story from college quite a few years back but don't remember the facts well. Could someone fill me in on the story or who he was?
I think you may be thinking of Clodius who intruded on the Bona Dea ceremony in 62 BCE. It is suspected that he was attempting to seduce Julius Caesar's wife since she was hosting the rites as the wife of the Pontifex Maximus (since the Pontifex could not preside over the ceremony since it was only open to women).
