Did commanders always yell "fire" to order their soldiers to shoot guns/arrows?

My mother noticed this while watching Game of Thrones, when they yell "fire" to shoot arrows. It doesn't really make sense to use that command if you don't have firearms, or am I wrong?

Hi there -- this question comes up here from time to time. Not to discourage further answers, but you might be interested in this old answer from u/Hergrim about how/whether archers were ordered to fire.
