Not sure if this is the right subreddit, but worth a shot.
I'm writing a historical story set in 1930s Hong Kong. Sometimes google just doesn't have answers to questions like "how did people document their deaths and what were the related procedures?" or just very mundane things like that. Nobody ever documents the process of filing a death certificate, so where can I find very specific information like that? Primary sources would be a good option but difficult to find and they would be probably 80-100 years old now.
Any advice or help is appreciated! Thanks :D
Good question. It might be worth looking at newspaper articles as changes to government procedures may be published there. I also suggest looking at personal accounts, diaries and so forth as people tend to fill them with bits of information about their everyday lives. If the information you are looking for may be exposed to an international audience, chances are you may be able to look for an account of such an action by a foreigner as things which seem different tend to be noted on by others but not the native population. Since you mentioned hong kong in particular, it was a British territory during the 1930s so it wouldnt be absurd to find that it mimics British procedures. India, similarly was a british territory and had several aspects of government changed to the British standard. Hope that helps, good luck!
