In the Near Ancient East, there was a word which was “Habiru”. Which means rebels, mercenaries, servants and/or slaves. We have the word Hebrew that means “to pass over” in some translations. We also see Habiru in the Amarna letters as well. Is there any correlation between Hebrew group and “Habiru”

We Jews refer to ourselves as either yehudi or bnei yisrael. Our language Hebrew we call ivrit, which roughly translates to "from over there", being a nod to our Mesopotamian origins across the Jordan River. Think Abraham who came from Ur Kasdim.

The word Hebrew itself is a Greek word changed via Latin.
