During Mussolini’s reign over Italy, did they have any weird politics or policy’s that made them stand out or different from Nazi Germany? Like anti-Semitic laws or racial segregation?
Mussolini was at first very much against any form of anti-semitic policies. He believed that if the Italians were such a powerful people, it's because it had been mixed with every great people that it had conquered to create the greatest people. He also said that jews asked to cry on Augustus tombs and that Italian jews behaved just as well as other Italians. He also got published by jewish-owned newspaper, had several Jewish friends and even got involved in a relationship with a Jewish girl. However, nazism influence quickly grew among his facsist supporters, Mussolini conceded anti-semitic laws were passed, on a similar scale than the Vichy regime. However, unlike the Vichy Regime, no deportation has been orchestrated until Italy's capitulation and the setting up of an German puppet regime in the parts of Italia that remained occupied by the axis (basically everything north of Rome)
