I've often heard of the bronze age collapse as the largest societal regression in human history but how far were the effects felt? What was the relative level of development of other societies in the world outside the eastern mediterranean? Did they have the complex trading systems that we associate with that era? Did they have a similar regression? For example did peoples living in India, China, Germany or the UK notice anything happened?
China was advanced at the time but too far away to feel any major effects; same with Britain. It is thought that a famine in Northern Europe (Germany) may have caused migrations, these migrating peoples making up some of the so-called Sea Peoples. Again, we need to all remember, the Sea Peoples were more victims of the collapse then the cause. But, after it was all said and done, and Hatti and the Mycenaeans/Minoans had disappeared, Ugarit was burned, and the Elamites sacked Babylon, the effects probably reached as far as Italy and Spain in the west, India in the east, and Nubia in the south.
