I was hoping someone may be able to help identify these German uniforms. They may be from seperate periods during the war.
I know he was a Panzer tank driver and was fighting in France and later captured in Russia towards the end of the war.
The 'Totenkopf' insignia on his lapel might help someone who knows about such history. He was from Frankfurt and I think was conscripted at the early outset of the war.
This isn't a statement of political anything, I live in Australia and am simply interested in understanding my family history.
The uniform from the first photo really isn't that special and it's just the standard uniform of the Wehrmacht and from the angle of the photo so distinguishing features can be seen. This was probably taken when he was a low ranking member of the Wehrmacht.
The second picture is taken in the uniform of a tank commander so that much is fact, if he won medals i can't tell as none can be seen. But he would have received a eastern front medal if he served on the east between 1941 to 1942.
