Was there trade between Western Africa and Eastern Africa, through the Sahel and how significant was the trade. And if not this what about Western/Eastern Africa with Central Africa such as the states in the African great lakes.

I know there was some trade between North Africa and West Africa and East Africa, but did West Africa engage with trade with East Africa or Central Africa, espicially since the Sahel was fairly habitable
