Perhaps this is a silly question (who did not read history textbooks at school), but I really have no idea about it. I am from Russia, a couple of years ago I moved to Canada. And I wanted to know the Western view of world history (especially Canadian, as I live here :D).
Of course, I can read on the Internet, but I would like to read something that has structure and is an authoritative source.
Thank you :)
Well, is there something in particular you are interested in? What you are asking seems like a monumental task. I think having a look at the several topics covered in this subreddit, mostly in the info, would give you a great idea about western perspective on world events since (I'm guessing) a majority of the posters in here are westerners.
But since you are a fellow northener, I would suggest you to start with canadian history and the weird relationship it has with Quebec. You can litteraly find two separate views of history in our own country. The protestant, english speaking POV and the catholic, french speaking POV. The best exemples I can give you would be the perspective of both of these parties about the Durham rapport, in 1839, the huge debacle of the Métis or the October crisis. If you can read french, I could happily send you some comparative articles about those events. It is very interesting.
