From what I've learnt the Dutch navy was the most well fed navy in the world during this difficult time with the average sailor eating 6500 to 8500 calories a day. I can't find what's such as ratio would look like unlike the British navy. Can anyone elaborate?
Where did you see that mentioned ? 7000 to 9000 calories a day is about the consumption range for members of an Antarctic expedition on skis - and one can't ingest that much daily without a diet that includes such dense fuels as pure fat, which no one will happily eat daily outside of a survival situation. Age of sail crews may require more than the 2500 calories a day ration of a sedentary person, but surely not 8000. Aboard any ship, the numbers you mention would be downright orgiastic !
