I have a history degree though I’m not using it directly in my career. I’d say the biggest advantages are the writing, research, and critical thinking skills. Also the ability to think big picture and have a framework for how current events fit with what came before.
I agree with Raspberry cream, and I think that’s true of most degrees. Mine’s not in history, but the transferable skills are the same—reading, writing, speaking, critical thinking, making good arguments with the use of empirical or supportable data. These are the skills you learn almost regardless of what topic you study, and they provide professional skills suitable for many different professions and careers.
